(ARA) – If you’re like most homeowners you probably don’t think much about trim and crown molding. But walk into a room with crown molding and you will immediately feel you are somewhere special. Trim and crown molding really complete a room that may otherwise seem dull and lackluster.
Baseboards and doorway trim are essential to give a room a finished look. And upscale touches like crown molding can add to the elegance of almost any room. In fact, trim and crown molding is so important that finish carpenters – craftsmen who specialize in making and/or installing room trim – can command high prices for their work.

With any project, proper planning is the first and most important step. A remodeling project is no different. If you are installing moulding, the surfaces have to be very clean and smoother. You have to be ready to cut the molding and therefore have the right tools handy, such as a mitre box, clamps and a cope saw. Finishing material and finishing nails will also have to be at hand.

I want to draw attention to your ceiling. Take a look at it. Ceilings are an often neglected area of the room when it comes time to redecorate (or repair). There are so many things that you can do too, that are inexpensive, yet provide the simple elegance that speaks to your style. Choose decorative ceiling medallions, crown molding, ceiling domes, rosettes, or panel molding, just to name a few. Three of my favorite ways to accent a ceiling: ceiling medallions, ceiling domes, and crown molding.

One of the most versatile items to consider in your interior design effort is wood molding. Not only are there tons of uses for it but there are literally hundreds of different types of molding.
Adding it to your decor also increases the perceived value of the home. Why? Because molding is something that was added purely for esthetics and not as a necessity. Savvy real estate agents know that when a potential buyer spots molding in the home the usually exhibit positive buy signs.
